Good Food Box Adding Home Delivery To Its Services

The Good Food Box is getting even better.

That’s according to Executive Director of the Anti-Hunger Coalition of Timmins Jennifer Vachon.

Vachon says a significant contribution was made of $30,000 from United Way to the program as of yesterday.

She says this donation is being put toward many programs, but specifically with the Good Food Box it will help them further their Home Delivery Service.

Vachon says the first Thursday of every month is when they package their food boxes and deliver them to their host sites for pickup.

She says now with funding, their home delivery service can move on from its pilot project faze.

“I think the main thing about this funding is that it has allowed us to coordinate a home delivery system. We recognize that in terms of access there is a large group of people who may not have access to these fresh healthy foods because of transportation.”

Vachon says some of the funding will also go to emergency food and shelter organizations within the city join their project.

“We are also going to be using the funding to be working with emergency food and shelter organizations and programs to help introduce them to the Good Food Box program and see if it is a good fit for them and their programming.”

As of now, boxes are still available at host sites throughout the city for those willing and able to travel.

The home delivery service hopes to help those without access to public transportation to still be able to receive their Good Food Boxes, at a cost of 3 dollars a delivery.
