Borden Mine is receiving a $5-million grant for an innovative and green investment.
Goldcorp’s mine in Chapleau is getting a grant from the Natural Resources Canada’s Clean Growth Plan to help reduce its carbon footprint. This program is used to invest clean technology research and development projects in mining, energy and forestry.
Goldcorp says it is working on being the first mine in Canada to replace all diesel equipment with battery electric vehicles. The company says electrifying the mobile fleet is a logical way to significantly reduce the mine’s environmental footprint and improve its viability, sustainability and profitability.
Borden is expected to start commercial production in the second half of 2019.
