Mayoral Candidates Debate Again

Mayoral candidates will be hitting the hot seat once again.

The Timmins Chamber of Commerce is hosting a business focused debate between all five people running for mayor. Board Chair Nancy Mageau says since debate will be different from the last one because it will be more business focused. “We wanted to make sure that the business community also had their input and listened to what the mayoral candidates have going forward, looking for growth and so forth within the City of Timmins.”

Mageau says most of the topics discussed will be parts of the “Timmins that Works” report that was produced with the help of local businesses. She says a lot of the topics she is hoping will come up include cost control and business growth within the city. “Now under those two headers, there are quite a few things for consideration. Such as under cost control, careful selection of management for projects at large, appropriate and efficient levels of service, targeted transparent budgeting and competitive business tax ratios.”

Mageau says the growth category includes, “economic diversification, business client improvement, business development and strategic investments.”

The debate will start at noon on Wednesday at the Dante Club. Mageau says you will have to register with the chamber to attend this debate because there is a lunch involved.
