It’s Time to Check Your Car Seats

Do you know if your child’s car seat is installed correctly?

The Cochrane District Social Services Administration Board and Porcupine Health Unit are teaming up to host a Car Seat Safety Blitz. This blitz is aimed at making sure your child is safe by having certified car seat technicians inspect installed car seats and answer question on safety.

EMS Commander of Quality Assurance Seamus Murphy says it’s extremely important to have a device like a car seat installed properly. “When there’s car seats that aren’t installed properly, they will fly around causing more damage not only to the child in the car seat but even the passengers within that vehicle.” Murphy adds that local EMS workers have seen car seats with children in them go flying out the window, which is very unfortunate.

Murphy says this time of year is a great time to get your car seat checked because it is back to school time. “Parents choose not to put their kids on the school buses and one of the simple reasons is because they feel better knowing their child is in a car seat.”

The blitz will run from 3:00pm to 7:00pm on Thursday in the DSSAB ambulance bay.
