Justin Trudeau was in town yesterday and says Canadians, including those in our area, need to become more politically engaged.
The Prime Minister made the comment during a speech at a barbecue put on by the Timmins-James Bay Liberal Association at the Mountjoy Historical Conservation Area.
In the campaign-style speech, Trudeau said that we live in a time where we have to think about the world we want to raise our kids in and the world we want to leave behind for future generations.
He added that we can’t just sit back and wait for politicians in Ottawa and at Queen’s Park to shape our future, saying “I need each and everyone of you to get engaged in your local community associations, to step up, to look at how you can make a difference in shaping the election that’s coming in a year, in shaping the conversation with yourself, with your neighbours, with your coworkers.
Trudeau added that many people in Timmins are making use of policies brought in by his Liberal government including the Canada Child Tax Benefit and that we need to start thinking about the type of world we want our children to grow up in and that we want to leave for future generations.
