Forest Fire Near Kamiskotia Lake is Almost Out

A forest fire near Kamiskotia Lake is almost out.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says on Sunday a fire started about four kilometres west of the lake. The MNRF says the blaze is now down to 0.6 of a hectare and being held by firefighters. Fire Information Officer Shayne McCool says this is one of 37 active fires in the northeastern region of the province. Only three of those fires are out of control.

He says Ontario’s fire situation has calmed down compared to last month, but that could change. McCool says the fire season runs until October 31st, so if Ontario experiences another dry spell it could create more fires. He says firefighters are hoping for more wet weather to help suppress the potential for more blazes.
