MADD Timmins is Concerned about the Buck-a-Beer Program

The Mothers Against Drunk Driving Timmins and Area Chapter isn’t thrilled about the new Buck-a-Beer program coming to the province.

Ontario plans on lowering the minimum retail price for beer from$1.25 to $1 starting August 27th. Local MADD Spokesperson Amy St. Amour says this program raises many concerns for the organization.

Timmins Police Service has recently released some statistics saying there is an increase in impaired driving incidents in the community. TPS says there has been a 19 per cent rise in impaired driving incidents compared to last year. St. Amour says the Buck-a-Beer program surely won’t help decrease this number.

She says as of now the organization doesn’t have a plan to confront the government about this, but it will continue to raise awareness around the dangers of driving impaired.
