MNRF Sends Out Forest Fire Safety Reminders

With a fire ban now in effect, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is sending out a few more fire safety reminders.

The MNRF says you should not be throwing any cigarettes out of your car or on the ground. Fire Information Officer Shayne McCool says with the way the weather has been, doing this can be very dangerous.

McCool says those with drones should not be flying them near any forest fire. He says there is a legislation that states you can’t be flying any sort or drones nine kilometres  around a fire.

He adds that people with boats or airplanes on the water should be tying them to the shore when water bombers are in the area. McCool says this is important because the sooner a water bomber can fill up safely, the more effective the wate will be on any fires in the area.

McCool says if you see any smoke, you should report it to the MNRF. He says doing this has helped firefighters battle a number of lightning fires in the area. You can report a fire by calling 310-FIRE (3473).
