DSB ONE Reacts To Funding Cuts

Discouraging and disappointing is the best way to describe recent education funding cuts according to District School Board Ontario North East.

The Ontario Progressive Conservative’s have announced the province will be cutting $100-million in funds for school repairs. Ontario’s newest government has made the cut despite a campaign promise to get rid of cap and trade from Premier Doug Ford.

DSB One Chair Bob Brush says the board was only been able to put half of the money allocated to them into projects it had planned, and now have to stop. DSB ONE originally projected in November that over $18-million would be needed for school upgrades. This included new LED signs and PA systems for most of the schools in the district. Brush saysthe board is disappointed with the outcome, but also was aware the Conservative government would look to make changes and tighten up spending.

He says now, DSB ONE will have to do what they can to move forward with its plans of fulfilling student learning and safety across all schools within the board.
