Timmins Firefighters Could be Hitting the Small Screen

Timmins firefighters could be featured on the Discovery Channel.

The Timmins Fire Department has been approached by Pixcom Productions, which works with the Discovery Channel, to see if it would like to be featured on season two of the show Hellfire Heroes. The show is about firefighters responding to emergency calls in different climates.

Deputy Chief Ellard Beaven says the production crews would highlight what the firefighters in Timmins do on a daily basis.

Beaven says in season one of the show, the Discovery Channel focused on smaller towns, but this season it is looking for bigger rural areas.

Beaven says having the department on the show would benefit the community in multiple ways including:

  • Increasing Timmins’ visibility
  • Create motivation within the department to do things with pride
  • Share skills, knowledge and professionalism throughout the firefighting staff

He says there would be no costs to the fire department to be about of the project, nor would it get any revenue from the show. The Timmins Proffesional Firefighters Association IAFF Local 535 and district chiefs associated with volunteer departments have agreed to the proposal. Beaven says before the department can agree it needs approval from council.

If approved, filming is expected to take place between August and September.

This will be presented at the round table on Tuesday in council chambers.
