North East dialysis leader passes away

Sudbury Health Sciences has announced the death of Dr. William Fay, a pioneer in dialysis treatment in the North East. Dr. Fay introduced the dialysis program in Sudbury in the 70’s, and from there was the leader in expansion programs throughout Elliot Lake, Kapuskasing, and Kirkland Lake. Mary Katherine Coady, Supervisor of Nephrology Programs, says prior to Dr. Fay coming to Sudbury in 1973, there was no dialysis programs in the North East, and patients would have to go to Toronto or Hamilton for care.

Flags are at half mast at HSN in Sudbury today, and there is a visitation planned for tonight.
