What Prep Work Goes into a Firework Competition?

Planning for this year’s Stars and Thunder firework competition has been in the works for a year.

David Whysall International Fireworks says this year they are setting up four firework shows compared to last year’s eight including Team Brazil, Finland, China and Canada. Last year, Team Brazil, Finland and China didn’t get set off because the wind was blowing in the wrong direction. Company Owner David Whysall says this year they have taken a few steps to make sure they aren’t so weather dependent.

Whysall says this year the team of 12 people setting up the fireworks are,’t quite as rushed because of only having four shows. Each canister is hand filled. He says the group is setting up two shows at a time so when one goes off, the next show can easily be set up in its place.

He says all the shows will be accompanied by music. Whysall says things to look out for this year will be the height of the fireworks and how big the Canadian show is.

This is a competition, so the international teams will be judged by a panel of local judges. The host team, Canada, is not apart of the competition.
