Library Hosts its First Literacy Fair

You can kick off your summer reading with a new Literacy Fair.

The Timmins Public Library will be launching its summer reading club at its first ever Literacy Fair this weekend. Early Childhood Education Advisor Francine Denis says the library wanted to show that literacy isn’t just reading.

Denis says some of the organizations participating in the fair include:

  • Centre culturel La Ronde inc.
  • EarlyOn Child and Family Centre
  • Healthy Kids Community Challenge Timmins-Misiway
  •  Ojibway & Cree Cultural Centre
  • Porcupine Health Unit
  •  Science Timmins
  • St. John Ambulance Therapy Dogs
  • TD Canada Trust
  • Timmins and District Multicultural Centre
  • Timmins Learning Centre
  • Timmins Police Service

She says the fair will kick off with the launch of the Summer Reading Club for kids between the ages of three and 13. Denis says after the library talks about the program, there will be time for mingling and snacks.

She says the fair and reading club is important to ensure that kids don’t loose all of their reading skills from the school year over the summer. More information will be provided at the fair. The event kicks off at 10:30am at the Timmins location.
