The City of Timmins says Armstrong is a great advocate for volunteering in the local community, as well as keeping the local history alive. Armstrong has been writing feature column for Timmins Times called “Over the Hill” for the past 20 years about local history, helped bring back the Porcupine Tartan and donated the proceeds of her book “Mud, Muskeg and Mosquitoes” to preserve the Hollinger House at the Timmins Museum. Mayor Steve Black says Armstrong has dedicated a considerable amount of time and effort into keeping the memories of past personalities alive.
