Herbicides that contain Glyphosate, such as Roundup Ready, were the theme of a GMO lecture in Timmins yesterday. Two experts on the topic, Dr. Vrain (vuh-rain), and Tony Mitra, spoke on the issue. Dr. Vrain says Glyphosate Modified Organisms, or GMO’s, are dangerous for our health and can create a variety of health issues such as Celiac and Diabetes. Tony Mitra says it is good for us to question what we are eating. He says it can be very difficult to prove that Glyphosate is dangerous for our health, but even so, having a suspicion of it is a good thing.
Mitra says Hudson, Quebec set the precedent in the 90’s, and now B.C. is taking it one step further by banning GMO’s in 24 municipalities. He says his goal is to get as many people involved as possible, and the best way to start is to get involved with politics at the municipal level.
