Kobzar Park is getting a new feature

A new statue is going to be unveiled in the Kobzar Park in Timmins next summer. The sculpture is of Ukrainian poet Taras Shev-chen-ko, and is being done by Northern Ontario artist Tyler Fauvelle. There used to be a marble statue of Shev-chen-ko in the park, but was vandalized beyond repair in the 2000’s. He was a big part of the literary arts in the Ukraine in the 1800’s, and has been compared to the likes of Shakespeare. Restoration efforts are still going on in the park, and fundraising efforts are ongoing.

The Timmins Museum is taking donations, they can be mailed or dropped off at 325 Second Ave. You can also email a donation to [email protected]. A tax receipt is available for donors.
