Snowmobile Trails Still Open in Mid-April

The snowmobile season is continuing in Timmins.

With the recent snowfall that the region has had, snowmobilers are still able to hit the trails. District Trail President Gilbert Fortin says this is one of the longest seasons the area has had in a while with trails through Timmins, Wawa, Hearst and Chapleau still open. Fortin says the forest trails are in good condition, but the water crossings are melting.

He says being open open for these past few weeks has put a strain on the local trail association financially. Fortin says the association is running out of dollars to pay the groomer operators. He says they had to ask head office for more money because if they want the trails to stay open, they need the money to operate.

He says snowmobilers should enjoy the trails while they can, because with the forecast showing plus 12 degrees next week, the trails will be closing soon. To stay up to date on the trail conditions, click here.
