Local Comedians Mourn the Death of a Canadian Icon

Timmins comedians are mourning the death of Canadian comedy icon Mike MacDonald.

63-year-old MacDonald passed away on Saturday from heart complications at the Ottawa Heart Institute. MacDonald started doing stand-up comedy in Toronto in the late 1970’s, traveling all around the world and making stops in smaller places like Timmins, with a his most recent local show this winter at the Working Class.

Timmins comedians have taken to social media to share their stories about and working with the icon. Rick Lemieux says it was an honour to work with MacDonald on tours and with the Timmins Comedy Festival. Lemieux says the “King of Canadian Comedy” inspired a generation of comedians and he will be missed.
