NOP Claims Travel Grant Is Failing Northerners

The Northern Ontario Party believes the Travel Grant system is failing northerners.

Following a crash involving a young family traveling back up north from Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto, the NOP is calling out the provincial government for a lack of care. Party Leader Trevor Holliday says currently the Northern Travel Grant only covers a one-night stay at a hotel, forcing parents to choose between driving tired on the way to or from the appointment.

The Liberal provincial government announced back in late October of 2017 improvements to the Northern Travel Grant such as increases in lodging expenses from $100 to $550.

Holliday says the system still needs revamping to include things such as a two-night hotel plans and even a Northern Ontario House for families to stay free of charge when attending appointments in Toronto.
