A new program is coming to College Boreal.
The first french-language Motive Power Technician Truck and Coach program in the province is launching this September.
College President Daniel Giroux says the first year of the program is a common year where students will learn both heavy equipment mechanic and truck and coach technician. Giroux says this gives students the opportunity to figure out what they want to specialize in for second year.
The Far Northeast Training Board says 25 per cent, or nearly 800 truck and coach technicians in the workforce are will be eligible for retirement by 2031.The board says adding programs like this locally will help with a succession plan for workers leaving the labour market.
