Over the Thanksgiving weekend, Timmins Police officers responded to over 300 calls. These calls included reports of: 7 assaults, 8 thefts, 4 break & enters, 13 domestic-related disputes, 27 suspicious person calls, and 6 reports of mischief, among others.

Officers also conducted traffic enforcement as part of Operation Impact. Officers conducted various routine traffic stops to check for impairment, along with close to 40 traffic enforcement-related stops. Highway Traffic Act charges laid included: 14 speeding charges, 13 aggressive driving related charges, one careless driving charge, three charges for failing to wear a seatbelt, two insurance-related charges, and one distracted driving related charge.

Police also conducted targeted enforcement at the new four-way stop intersection at Wilson Ave. and Preston St. Police monitored the intersection, and several drivers were stopped for failing to stop at a stop sign. Police remind motorists and pedestrians alike to be cautious at the new four-way stop intersections during the adjustment period while drivers become accustomed to the new stop signs.

The Timmins Police Service is pleased to report that zero impaired driving charges were laid over the Thanksgiving weekend. We congratulate all drivers who chose alternative transportation rather than drinking and driving, and hope this trend continues into the holiday season.
