New Child Care Centre Coming to South Porcupine

A new child care centre is being added to St. Joseph School in South Porcupine.

The Northeastern Catholic District School Board is receiving $2,268,787 from the Ministry of Education to add a licenced child care facility to the school. Director of Education Tricia Weltz says it will be expanding the school, rather than renovating, to add the 49 child care spaces.

The school district is working with the Cochrane District Social Services Administration Board and Timmins YMCA during this process. The YMCA will be running the programming and the CDSSAB will be helping the NCDSB with things like  community needs assessments. Director of Children Services with CDSSAB Beth Nowak says the centre will host infant, toddler, preschool and before and after school programming.

Weltz says there is currently no timeline for when the facility will open.
