College Boreal Students Head to Guatemala

Students and Staff from College Boreal will be heading to Guatemala for a humanitarian trip.

This is part of a new initiative that aims to get students to help communities both locally and abroad. In total nine students and four staff members from the Timmins, Kapuskasing and Hearst campuses will be going to the Spanish country from May 5th to 13th to build cinderblock homes.

Liaison Officer for the college Michelle Boileau says this gives students a chance to expand their horizons by fully immersing themselves in another culture while helping others.

Business Student Kathryne Cook says there are some aspects to this trip she is excited to add to her resume.

Boileau says students and staff will be staying with host families while in Guatemala. She says this will be a great experince and it is more cost effective. The school has to pay for all the materials it will use to build the houses. You can donate to the college’s trip by clicking here.
