Timmins Will Pay CDSSAB Payments, but “Under Protest”

Timmins will start making payments to the Cochrane District Social Services Administration Board, but under protest.

City Council reversed a previous vote to stop all payments after the province froze a recent funding formula change that would have saved the city about $1-million per year by having municipalities pay for the services they use.

Mayor Steve Black says council isn’t happy with the province’s decision, but it will continue the payments.

Black says the city does want to see some change to the funding formula, but the province is now in control. He adds that the province in undergoing a DSSAB Act review.

The provincial election is scheduled for June 7th.
