TH&VS Opens Gender-Neutral Washrooms

News of new washrooms at Timmins High and Vocational School is buzzing around the Fierte Timmins Pride community.

Students from Timmins High Gay-Straight Alliance told Timmins Pride at the Transgender Day of Remembrance celebration that the school has recently installed three gender-neutral washrooms. Grade 11 student Sammi Moreau says it’s really exciting to have the school support the transgender community like this.

Moreau says the with the help of the Child and Youth Worker at the school Shelley Robinson, GSA also made flags of support from students at Timmins High to share with the Timmins Pride group.

President of Fierte Timmins Pride Matti Villaneuve says it’s really impressive to see students come out and remember the people who have lost their lives because of transphobia. Villaneuve says Transgender Day of Remembrance is recognized on November 20th around the world to not only remember those who have died, but also the ongoing struggles faced within the community.
