Ontario’s college faculty has rejected an offer that could have ended the almost five-week strike.
This means nearly 500,000 students will remain out of class come Monday morning. President of Northern College Fred Gibbons says it is disappointing for the students to be out of class, but plans are continuously being revised to continue education once the strike is over.
Gibbons says as of now, the plan is to extend the semester until December 22nd, then have students come back to class on January 3rd.
He adds that the school is aware of some of the financial troubles this is causing students, and work is being done to help that.
He says that plan should be issued to students within the next couple of days.
Talks have resumed between Ontario colleges and the union representing faculty.
The Ontario government’s second attempt to get college students back to class did not get unanimous support. Premier Kathleen Wynne will table back-to-work legislation for the third time during a special sitting tomorrow afternoon.
