Debate Over a Shelter in South Porcupine

A proposed women and children’s shelter in South Porcupine is being heavily debated. The Bloor Avenue shelter would house women and kids who need a place to stay, and would incorporate a thrift shop into the building. Monday’s council meeting saw some community members say the shelter would decrease safety and home value in South Porcupine, while others disagreed saying there is a need for one. Chairman of the Good Samaritan Inn, Ed Ligocki, says the city won’t be disappointed if the zoning changes are passed. The matter will come back to council.
