Sand removal is starting to ramp up in Timmins.

The city is starting its annual street spring cleaning by sweeping off the sidewalks in the downtown core. Public Works Manager Ken Krcel says since the weather is starting to warm up, they are now able to start removing the piles of sand.

Krcel says if the weather holds, they will be able to start the full street cleanup after the Easter weekend.

He adds this process normally takes about six to eight weeks.
