Ontera Job Cuts

40 jobs are going to be cut at Ontera over the next two years, according to the United Steel Workers Local 1976 Union. Of those 40 union jobs, seven will be from Timmins. The job cuts will affect about half of the work force, and that number doesn’t include any managerial or clerical staff, who will also be affected by a smaller union.

18 jobs in North Bay are going to be cut, six in Cochrane, seven in New Liskeard, one in Sudbury, and one in Sault Ste. Marie, on top of the seven in Timmins.

The cuts will come after Ontera is sold to Bell Aliant in August.
