OPP Celebrates Fraud Prevention Month

March is Fraud Prevention Month for the OPP and their partners the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

Detective Constable Ted Schendera of the OPP Anti-Rackets Branch says the focus of the campaign in its 13th year is educating communities on how to handle possible scammers who cost Canadians an estimated $290 million dollars between 2014 and 2016.

Schendera also says there are numerous amounts of ways that people can gather helpful tips and resources to deal with possible fraudsters through social media by using the hashtags #FPM2017, #DontBeAVictim and also #OPPtips.

He also says the campaign’s goal is to further educate communities on how to better prepare and deal with possible future scams.
