Ontario Colleges Seek Meeting with Premier

Colleges across Ontario are seeking a meeting with Premier Kathleen Wynne to look at the current funding shortfall. A report done by PwC Canada says provincial funding for colleges’ operating costs has gone down each year, and if things don’t change schools could be facing a cumulative $1.9 billion shortfall by 2024.

President and CEO of Northern College Fred Gibbons says they are doing everything they can to cope with the lack of funding but can’t continue like this. He says if things don’t change, the cuts they will have to take will effect the quality of education at Northern College.

A statement from the Ministry of Advance Educations states that they are focused on directly linking post secondary funding with government priorities. Colleges will be meeting with Minister Deb Matthews in February, but they are hoping to secure a meeting with Premier Wynne.
