Darkness and Weather are Major Factors in Foleyet Helicopter Crash

Weather and darkness are the major factors that lead to a fatal helicopter crash in Northern Ontario.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada says the chopper was heading towards a timber camp near Foleyet when it hit some trees on a hilly terrain and went down killing the pilot and lone passenger in September 2015.
The board says the helicopter left for the camp as darkness approached and the weather began to deteriorate, even though the pilot was not licensed to fly at night and the chopper wasn’t equipped for night-time flying.
The board believes the pilot was unable to gauge how low he was flying.
