Timmins Receives Federal Funding for Transit Upgrades

The Federal Government will be giving the city of Timmins just over $1.4-millionĀ for transit system improvements. Timmins is one of eight cities to receive money from the Public Transit Infrastructure Fund.

Mayor Steve Black says this money is welcome news because it should cover all the capital costs for the bus system this year. This includes projects likeĀ refurbishing two buses, adding new shelters on bus routes, installing passenger counters on existing busesĀ and repairs to the bus terminal.

Black says it’s great to see that the Federal Government remains committed to investing in communities and their infrastructure needs. The money will be arriving in instalments between February and August.
