Flu Season Could Spike in January

Flu cases are expected to spike in the first few weeks of January according to the Porcupine Health Unit in Timmins. Public Health Nurse Lesley Westhauser says this years flu season has been quiet so far, but January is typically the busiest month for the illness. Westhauser says people need to make sure they prevent the spread of germs by washing their hands regularly, but the best way to ensure you don’t catch the bug is to get the influenza vaccine. She says it’s not too late to get vaccinated if you haven’t already. Appointments to get the vaccine can be made by calling the Porcupine Health Unit.
