Pursuing sustainable mining initiatives

The MP for Nickel Belt has been talking sustainable development in mining at an international conference. Marc Serre met with politicians and industries from 35 countries in Mexico City to discuss sustainable development initiatives.  Serre says a world-wide downturn in mining has affected many countries and Canada was not spared.  Serre says mining in Northern Ontario employs 20,000 people and the downturn has affected our ability to sell goods to other nations.  Serre is confident that by everyone working together, innovate solutions in the mining sector can be found.

Meanwhile, Serre is getting praise from the head of the Sudbury Area Mining Supply and Service Association.  Dick DeStefano was reacting to the Liberal MP pursuing taking part in the Mexican international conference.  DeStefano says there are more than 500 mining-related companies in Northern Ontario that can bring highly developed technologies to the world.  DeStefano says Serre is helping mining by going to conferences like the Mexico City event which helps keep mining in the forefront.
