Dangerous ice conditions

It might be starting to get cold, but the ice isn’t thick and strong enough yet to support outdoor activities.  That’s the warning from OPP in Kirkland Lake.  Ice has to be at least four inches thick to walk on, five inches deep for snowmobiles and eight inches for light vehicles.  If you fall through the ice, the OPP say remember the 1-10-1 rule.  You have one minute to regain your composure while in the water, 10 minutes to get out before hypothermia sets in and less than one hour to warm up your body.  Police add if you fall through the ice, not only are you endangering yourself, you also risk the lives of people trying to save you.
