News Gelinas calling for the long-term care system to be changed in Ontario SHARE ON: Taylor Ablett, staff Monday, Nov. 7th, 2016 France Gelinas, the MPP for Nickel Belt, is speaking out about how long-term care homes work in Ontario. She says couples are being forced to separate due to medical needs, and a strategy to reunite them has to be changed. Gelinas references one couple in particular, after a fall sent one to a long-term care home. She says the chance of them reuniting is now slim-to-none. That’s because crisis situations are ahead of spousal reunification on the province’s priority list. And, the long-term care system in their community has a crisis list all of the time. Gelinas says this is one example of many in Ontario, and is calling on the government to change the system so no other couple has to go through the same ordeal.
