Timmins city councillor Rick Dubeau is looking for all closed meetings of council to be recorded. He says this is strongly recommended as a best practice by the ombudsman’s office, so that if any investigations are opened afterwards, as much information as possible is available.
Those investigations could be opened by either the ombudsman’s office, or the city’s integrity commissioner, once one is hired. The city is expected to hear a recommendation to appoint an integrity commissioner at the next council meeting.
Council hasn’t voted on the issue yet, but a resolution will be coming back to the table to either be passed or rejected.
