Wynne Liberals pledging to cut hydro bills by 8%

Yesterday’s Throne Speech saw many promises including cuts to hydro across the province.

MPP for Timiskaming-Cochrane, John Vanthof says this is a step in the right direction, but it’s the first of many. The MPP says the Wynne government pledged to knock 8% off the provincial portion of the HST for all electricity bills, something the NDP’s have been working towards for a long time.

Vanthof says although it is a step in the right direction, until they see results he thinks it’s all talk. The MPP says the Wynne government has made a lot of empty promises over the past couple years and this is their way of pushing the reset button.

Other topics that were covered in the speech included addressing cuts to health care and a promise to create 100,000 spots for kids in child care over the next five years. Vanthof says these are repeat promises of things the Wynne government has failed to do yet.
