Non profit looking for shoe donations to send to countries facing extreme poverty

A not-for-profit organization that donates shoes to those living in extreme poverty is expanding their presence in northern Ontario. Soles 4 Souls is already in Timmins, but is now also in Kapuskasing. A volunteer with the organization, Jessika Karroll, says their goal is to collect as many shoes as possible and donate them to different countries where there is widespread poverty.

Karroll says that once they pick up 25,000 pairs they will have the opportunity to go deliver them to the country they feel is most in need. Karroll says so far they have received tremendous community support, as almost 2000 pairs of shoes have been donated in the past couple months of being in Kapuskasing. Karroll says the support from the community is a welcome surprise.

The organization has plans to raise community awareness with an event at the end of August. An exact date hasn’t been set yet, but Karroll says they plan on working with the health unit to find the best time.

You can find out more about Soles 4 Souls on their website. Drop off points include Bio Ped in Timmins, and Eastview Chevrolet in Kapuskasing.
