Goldcorp’s Dome Mine is set to stay open indefinitely. This comes after the mine was going to close this month, which was then extended to October. The decision to stay open was released this morning, due to a spike in gold prices this year. The company says the mine will stay open for the rest of 2016, and beyond. They also note that the decision was not reached lightly.
Goldcorp says the news should resolve a lot of uncertainty going forward for their employees and will also be welcome news in the community and surrounding areas as they continue to be a partner and employer in the city.
Mayor Steve Black echoed those comments, saying it is good news for Timmins, and hopes it will spur further announcements in the future.
