Timmins teen charged with first degree murder in the Bozzer Park death

First degree murder charges have been laid in connection to the suspicious death at Bozzer Park. The body of 19-year-old Austin Theriault was found early Wednesday morning. Police are now charging 19-year-old Nathan Koostachin.

Koostachin was arrested around 12 hours after the victim was found, which Communications Officer for the Timmins Police Marc Depatie says is relatively unheard of in policing. He says in cases when there is a 911 call with a third-party involved, then the arrest is quite often made close to the scene. However, that wasn’t an option in this case, and Depatie says that speaks to the level of competence and training within the Timmins Police Service.

Depatie says Koostachin is still in custody, but no court dates have been set yet.

Police are not saying if the victim and the suspect knew each other, as the investigation is still open.  They are also not giving a cause of death.

The park has been released by the police and is now open for public use. Police are still asking anyone with relevant information to come forward as the investigation continues. Call the Timmins Police at 705-264-1201 and quote incident TI16013493. Or, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
