Lifejacket saves a man’s life after he fell in Lake Superior near Wawa

OPP believe a man wearing a life jacket was kept alive by his floatation device while crews tried to find him in Lake Superior. Northern detachments are taking the opportunity to remind boaters and anglers to keep safety in mind when heading out onto the water.

The 65-year-old was kayaking with a friend on the lake near Wawa when he fell in the water. Police say conditions were bad on the lake at the time. Several rescue teams looked for the man including the US Coast Guard and a plane from the Ministry of Natural Resources.

The MNR plane spotted the man along the Lake Superior shoreline several hours after he went missing.

The man was in good health and police say his life jacket played a major role in keeping him alive.
