Public safety advisory issued over sales fraud in Timmins

The Timmins Police Service is issuing a public safety advisory regarding fraudulent phone and door-to-door sales. Police say city staff has been advised of people claiming to be raising money for charity, but no such campaign is under way.

Police say to always verify the legitimacy of any fundraising campaign you donate to, and also point out that any door-to-door sales requires a permit from the city. If the salesperson doesn’t have one, be suspicious.

TPS also says to report any threatening or aggressive behaviour from salespeople.
