Bisson continuing to work for gas regulations in Ontario

Timmins-James Bay MPP Gilles Bisson is working to lower prices at the gas pumps by calling for a meeting with Ontario’s new Energy Minister. He says one big item on their agenda is gas regulation, something he says works for other commodities in Canada. Bisson says the Energy Minister, Glenn Thibeault, is claiming regulation will just lead to higher prices because you then have to pay for a regulatory board. But, Bisson counters if that’s true, why are natural gas and other commodities being regulated now.

Bisson also points out the price of gas is being regulated in all of our Maritime provinces, in Quebec, and in a bunch of U.S. States already. He says it’s all about the model you choose to keep prices low.

The five MPP’s calling for a meeting with Thibeault are hoping to appeal to his time as a federal member where he was outspoken on the cost of energy. Bisson says he was pretty adamant when he in opposition in Ottawa that the province had to step up to the plate to use its regulatory powers. If anything, just to threaten the companies to get themselves under control.

Bisson says he thinks Thibeault’s heart is there, but the question remains, is the rest of Cabinet?
