MNRF stresses fire safety as dry and hot conditions are in the forecast

Fires which closed massive stretches on Highway 11 over the Victoria Day long weekend are now under a controlled status. As of this week there have no new fire discovered in north eastern Ontario.

Fire designation zones Hearst 4 and Hearst 5 have been burning since last month. MNRF fire suppression teams, the MTO, and the OPP moved quickly last month to both contain and evacuate the fire areas. The long-range forecast for this weekend is calling for 30 degrees and dry conditions. The MNRF is taking the opportunity to remind campers and cottage goers of the importance of fire safety.
