Timmins blood drive helping to support today’s World Blood Donor Day

The Canadian Blood Services is throwing their support behind today’s World Donor Day. The international event aims to boost donor numbers worldwide, and raise awareness of the need for donors, not only in Canada but worldwide.

Blood Services Territory Manager for Timmins, Joanne Drake, says it takes a lot to support hospital patients; five donors a week to support someone in cancer treatment, eight donors a week to support Leukaemia treatments, and up to 50 blood donations for a single car crash victim. Drake says the list goes on and on.

Drake also points out every minute of every day, there is someone in Canada who needs blood. The next blood drive is in Timmins on June 21st and 22nd. Appointments can be booked online, by calling 1-888-2-DONATE, or by just walking in.
