City Hall looking at the cost of street lights along Rae Hill area of the Connecting Link

Timmins city Council is looking at how much it is going to cost to put street lights on the Connecting Link between Schumacher and South Porcupine. This comes as east end residents asked for the lights, with Councillor Walter Wawrzaszek throwing his support behind the motion.

The ward two Councillor says it is a particularly dangerous section of highway, as it goes from being lit along Rae Hill, to darkness along the highway, to light again at the Bruce-Y. Wawrzaszek also points out moose and bear are known to cross the highway around that area.

Councillor Mike Doody also supports the motion, calling it a “no brainer”. He says it stands out that the area has no lighting at all, and is highly dangerous for whatever animals may be crossing the road.

Council voted on getting a cost analysis done to see if putting the lights is an option. This comes as council has also voted to get a costing on what moose fencing for the same area.
