Temiskaming OPP is reminding the public of ice safety.
OPP says once the ice starts to rot the thickness can’t be used to determine if it’s safe. Ice can also erode from the bottom up leaving no obvious warning signs.
OPP adds that ice that is over flowing water like rivers and and streams can be weaker so they suggest to constantly keep an eye out for changing conditions, and if in doubt don’t go out.
