English Catholic School Board planning to close and amalgamate all of their schools

The Northeastern Catholic District School Board is looking into the possible closure and amalgamation of all English Catholic school and facilities in Timmins. The schools under review are St. Paul Catholic School, Sacred Heart School, O’Gorman Intermediate Catholic School, O’Gorman High School, and the ACCESS Centre. This comes after a recommendation from the Accommodation Review Committee.

Sacred Heart School is set to be closed in September as part of this review. The board will then implement dual track programs at St. Paul or O’Gorman Intermediate, depending on enrollment numbers.

Board Chair, Richard Brassard, says they believe this will have a positive impact on student learning, and will be applying for provincial funding to transform their current facilities for Catholic elementary students in Timmins. The board will be developing a business plan within the next few weeks.
